Consumer Evaluations
I purchased this monitor even though expecting my third kid. I had often been especially worried about SIDS when my other two boys had been babies, so I believed I would acquire absolutely nothing but peace of mind when I produced this invest in. It unquestionably achieved that - I was able to sleep nicely from the moment I began putting the child in the bassinet next to my bed knowing that the alarm would sound if he stopped moving. We never ever had a false alarm for the entire five months he was in the bassinet, so I felt just as comfortable placing him in his crib when the time came. Unfortunately about two weeks following we put him into his crib the alarm sounded. I ran in there and he was to the side of the crib entirely awake. I believed at that point we had had our initial false alarm, so I put him to sleep and put him back in the crib thinking nothing of it. A handful of days later, we had an additional alarm sounding in the middle of the night. I ran in there, and he wasn't breathing at all, even soon after I picked him up. I had to vigorously stimulate him to get him to breathe. Over the subsequent month or so we found that his sleep apnea was caused by a silent reflux, and he is now stablilized immediately after a number of months of prevacid and zantac and apnea monitoring (with multiple alarms sounding for extreme drop in heartrate). The pediatrician even has expressed his gratitude for this monitor - he even said to me that often with babies below 6 months you only have the one particular apnea episode before you get a SIDS diagnosis. Needless to say, I am eternally grateful for this monitor that I solely bought to calm my neurotic tendencies, for the reason that with no it it is fairly probable I wouldn't have my adorable sweet ten month old boy about now. I am still working with it now that the apnea monitor had to be returned and I still sleep well realizing it was what originally saved my son's life.
This sensor has worked well for us. For safety factors it is powered only by low voltage AA batteries. The battery power is also a helpful feature if you have limited wall sockets in the room, or if you want to use the sensor on a portable crib or in a hotel.
The sensor is particularly sensitive. At initially, our infant breathed so lightly quite often I couldn't be positive, but this product senses it.
Yet, we have had lots of false alarms. We have false alarms when the child rolls near the edge of the crib or rolls to the precise spot that isn't directly above one of the sensors! It aids if we position the sensors under the regions exactly where the infant tends to roll or sleep, but we nevertheless have false alarms (even now that the baby is considerably larger) since the two sensor pads included in the box are not huge sufficient to cover the whole region of the crib. One more source of false alarms was the connection among the sensor alarm. Somehow (I guess following we moved one thing) the connection became loose. The false alarms stopped just after we pulled out the wire and pushed it back in till we heard the "click."
The directions say that if the crib mattress is supported by springs rather than a challenging surface, a board demands to be placed on the springs and the sensors on best of the board, underneath the mattress. That is what we did. I'm not positive what to do with the portable crib. Our portable crib does not provide a hard level surface below the sleeping pad. So we ordered an extra sleeping pad and placed the sensors in between the two pads. It seemed to perform, and the extra sleeping pad folds so it travels well.
